They're possibly un-related. The VSC light is the malfunction signal for the 'Variable Skid Control' which is part of the braking system and has nothing to do with the engine. Have it checked immediately as it could involve either the braking system OR the malfunction of one (or more) of the skid sensors built into the wheel assemblies. Either way, a possibly dangerous condition. The check engine light may just be because you have exceeded the 7,500 mile service reminder limit.
