How did France get the territory back from Spain by 1800?

a secret treaty

When did Spain transfer Louisiana territory to France?

In 1762 ceded what came to be called the Louisiana Territory to Spain in return for their help during the French and Indian wars. In 1800 my sources tell me that Spain gave or sold the territory back to France. In turn France sold it to the U.S. in 1803. I do not know how or why the transfer in 1800 was done. In writing a small history project, I would like to find how that transfer was made, and why. Any help? Dolores Dambach songbird71@toast.net France got control of the Louisiana Territory with the signing of the Third Treaty of San Ildefonso in 1800. - G Oakley

Is french people leave France are they allowed back?

no, not for 14 years and 268 days, if they leave France, even walk five steps outside the border of France, they arnt allowed back into France for 14 years and 268days, if they do come back within that time, they are removed forcefully, and never allowed to return. they usually go to live in Spain,Italy or Germany as they are closest, which is why if you go to those countries a lot of the people can speak french and that language. because they left and then came back.

Why did France offer to sell all of Louisiana to the US?

Napoleon sold Louisiana to the U.S. It was a French colony the whole time. Napoleon was using the colony as a base for sugar trading in the Caribbean. He planned to take Santo Domingo to expand his territories in that area, after the planned conquest failed, he sold his U.S colonies having no more use for them. This deal was known as the Louisiana Purchase and it included the area of all and parts of 15 states. He also hoped that the U.S could use the ports at Louisiana to disrupt British interest in the Northern Carribbean.

What restrictions did Spain place on colonial trade?

The Spanish secretly held claim to Louisiana after the Treaty of Fountainbleu (1762), but did not take possession until 1764. It was transferred back to France for the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Spain supported the colonials against Great Britain, and gave the US use of the Mississippi River under Pinckney's Treaty (1795). Spain revoked this in 1799, but also temporarily blocked the use of New Orleans from 1799 to 1801 and denied permission to Lewis and Clark for their expedition up the Missouri River. This moved Thomas Jefferson to initiate the Louisiana Purchase, because France had (again secretly) regained the territory under the Treaty of San Ildefonso in 1800.

Was Louisiana a french or Spanish colony?

Both... it was first a French colony, was then transferred over to Spain, and then transfrerred back to French in 1800 in the Third Treaty of San Ildefonso.I am pretty sure it was a french colony. France gained Louisiana and then sold it later on to the United States in the Louisiana Purchase. In case you didn't know the Louisiana Purchase was bought for approximately 15 million dollars.
