The main difference is how the trunk space is partitioned. Hatchbacks are also normally shorter than sedans. With a sedan, the trunk is partitioned away from the passenger cabin and is only accessible by opening the trunk. With a hatchback there is no trunk per se. A hatchback has space behind the rear passenger seat that is accessible through a rear door or window; often referred to as a "hatch", "lift gate", or some other term.

A hatchback has a sloped window in the back of the car that lifts up. A sedan doesn't have this feature.

Is the automatic transmission the same in a 1987 Honda accord lxi hatchback and a 1987 Honda accord lx 4 door sedan?

Yes, the transmissions between the two are generally the same. The bolt hole line-up is standard for both hatchback and sedan models, and will interchange nicely. Even if the the engine has fuel injection or carbureted fuek systems, it will not make a difference for tranny swaps.

Will a Honda Civic 1994 body parts fit on a 1995 Honda Civic?

depending on what it is exactly, it's hard to say, but most of them should fit from turbointivic: depends on the body style. 92-95 honda civics comes in a range of body styles. there is the coupe, sedan, and 3 door hatchback. tail lights of the sedan and coupe are the same, the hatchback tail lights are different the headlights are all the same for the 3 styles but the corner/marker lights are the same for the for the coupe and hatchback but is different for the sedan. this also means that the fenders are interchangeable for the coupe and hatch but is not for the sedan. the front bumper is interchangeable between the coupe and the hatch but not the same for the sedan the rear bumper is interchangeable between the sedan and coupe but not the hatchback. doors are obvious, they are only interchangeable between the hatch and coupe, sedan is different(4 doors) the hood is the same for the coupe and hatch but different for the sedan this should cover all the body parts for the 92-95 civics

What is the difference between a hatchback and a sedan?

The sedan (or saloon in UK) has a trunk (boot, in the UK) separated by a bulkhead from the passenger compartment; and with its lid below the bottom of the rear window. A hatchback combines the passenger and luggage space in one compartment of full height, with a single lift-up door (the hatch itself) fitted with a large window. The rear seats can usually be folded flat or unclipped and removed, to leave two front seats and a large luggage volume. The precursor of the hatchback was the station-wagon, with conventionally-hinged rear door or pair of doors.
