The temperature of a body is proportional the the average Kinetic Energy of the particles (molecules or atoms) that make up the body. Can't be done the other way because a car traveling at 60 miles per hour has Kinetic energy which has nothing to do with temperature. The car doesn't care if is 100 degrees or 20 degrees.
