Although many people believe John the Apostle to be the author of The Book of Revelation, a very large proportion of Biblical scholars believe that the author of Revelation can not be John the Apostle, owing primarily to the most salient fact that he could not have lived long enough to write it in the time period it is believed to have been written in, (The reign of the Roman Emperor Domitian, AD 81 - 96). In addition, John the Apostle, and the John of Revelation have two radically different theological perspectives, as well as vastly different thematic, and writing styles. Several 2nd Century Biblical scholars name the Revelation author as John of Patmos, owing to his self-described circumstances, (exiled to, and living on the island of Patmos in the Aegean Sea) which he wrote about in his 'letter' to the "Seven Churches of Asia." This 'letter' constitutes the whole of the Book of Revelation. All that is truly known about the 'Revelation' author is that he was a Jewish Christian prophet, who wrote during the reign of Emperor Domitian. No original copy of the manuscript exists. Some believe that the original was written on the walls of the cave (The Cave of Apocalyps) which he is believed to have occupied, and in which he received his visions during his time living, and writing 'Revelation' on the island of Patmos. Who the person who called himself only, "John" and wrote Revelation, 'really' was, has been hotly debated for 2000 years. Whether the book should be included in the recognized Cannon of The Bible has also been disputed for nearly that long. The council of Trent finally included it as a permanent book of the Biblical Canon in 1546 AD.

The Gospel of St. John is traditionally attributed to John the Apostle, one of Jesus' disciples. The Book of Revelation is also attributed to John, known as John of Patmos, who wrote it while exiled on the island of Patmos.

Where can you find it in the bible where john wrote the book of revelations while on island patmos?

There are many traditions about the authorship of Revelation which, since it is signed by a person called John, is usually attributed to the apostle John. However, scholars say that the author of the Book of Revelation was certainly not the author of the Gospel According to St John. We can not say with certainty where the book was written, and in fact it appears to have been written in layers, by at least two different authors separated in time, neither of whom wrote about where he lived.
