You can only do that if you have an onboard computer. In my case I have a VW Polo Confortline 2006 with computer. Then you just need to press an up/down button on the extremety of the wipe wash control (the right one). If you don't have onboard computer, I believe you that you can't check the ouside temperature, travel time, Kilometers left with current fuel on tank...

According to my Haynes Manual the timing as not adjustable. It is controlled by the onboard computer. What can make a difference ,however is if the mechanical timing of the camshafts etc which is set when you change the timing belt or other repairs.
