The battle of the Alamo occurred in late February and early March, 1836. This was an election year, but Jackson was not running, having already been elected twice and not wanting to try for a third term. Jackson did want to see his VP, Martin Van Buren succeed

him and although it was not customary for a sitting president to try to influence the next

election, he took an active role, Behind the Scenes, in the campaign for Van Buren.
