Christmas was never canceled
I disagree.
In England, Christmas was abolished by Act of Parliament passed by the Puritans in 1647. The ban lasted until the Restoration of King Charles II in 1660. In New England, the records of the General Court, Massachusetts Bay Court mention banning Christmas on the 11th of May 1659. This ban was revoked by the Governor, Sir Edmund Andros in 1681.
