Best Answer

Gettysburg was the bloodiest battle in the American Civil War, with about 47,000 casulties. However it is not even close to being the bloodiest battle in history. There are many other historical battle with much higher casualty rates.

The bloodiest battle in History was the Battle of Stalingrad in World War II with about 2 Million casualties in total.

No, it was a 3-day battle.

The bloodiest single day in the Civil War (or in the nation's history) was 17 September, 1862, the battle of Antietam.

As a side note, the battle of Gettysburg was the bloodiest battle, but that particular bloodbath was spread over three days, 1 - 3 July 1863.
