Yes he was. He was commissioned an ensign on 26 October 1941 and medically retired on 1 March 1945.
After completing Naval Reserve Officer Training School on 27 September 1942. He then completed Motor Torpedo Boat Training School 2 December 1942 and was assigned to Motor Torpedo Squadron FOUR.
His first command was PT-101 from 7 December 1942 to 23 February 1943.
After a brief hospitalization in Jacksonville, Florida from a diving injury he was assigned duty in Panama.
His next command was PT-109 at Motor Torpedo Squadron TWO 24 April 1943 until it was cut in half by the Japanese destroyer Amagiri on 2 August 1943 at 02:00.
About a month later his third and last command was PT-59 until he was medically relieved of duty on 18 November 1943. He was sent to Naval Hospital on Tulagi and then sent back to the States in early January 1944.
He was hospitalized from May to December 1944 at Naval Hospital Chelsea Massachusetts and placed on limited duty. From January to March 1945 he received treatment from Castle Hot Springs Resort temporary military hospital in Arizona.
On 1 March 1945 he medically retired from the Navy as a full lieutenant.
He received the following awards for his service in the Navy during WWII: Navy and Marine Corps Medal, Purple Heart, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 stars, and World War II Victory Medal.
He was put in for the Silver Star Medal for combat on PT-109 but it was downgraded to the non-combat award of the Navy and Marine Corps Medal. Five years after he retired in 1950 the Department of the Navy offered him the Bronze Star Medal which he declined.
So to answer your question, yes Virginia, JFK was in World War II.

JFK's obvious greatest success was in not only surviving the ramming of his PT boat in world war 2, but in being able to swim his living men to shore. If this had not happened, Kennedy would not have gone on to become President (or anything else).
