Mary was a spearhead of hope for the Catholic population of England. They saw her as a prospective Catholic leader. However Mary Queen of Scotland and the Isles can only be proven to be have been involved with one plot. However, seeing that she had been under house arrest for 19 years, It is more than possible she just wanted to escape. It would be a difficult position.

∙ 15y agoI think you are confusing Mary I, Queen of Scots with Mary I, Queen of England (Bloody Mary). Mary Queen of Scots, although brought up a Catholic, attempted to reach an understanding with the Scottish Protestants. She had none killed. Bloody Mary, on the other hand, had some 300 burnt at the stake in England.

∙ 13y agoElizabeth didn't want Mary Queen of Scots to be executed. She refused to sign the death warrant. The secretary slipped in the death warrant with a pile of papers she had to sign. She signed it without knowing. She tried to stop the execution but it was too late
