She was not.

This story was invented by Mohammed Fayed, because she was travelling in one of his cars and driven by a chauffeur who was his employee, so he could have been taken to court over it (which he still could be.)

The task of setting up a murder under those conditions would have been virtually impossible, and presumably meant sacrificing the chauffeur or persuading him to carry out a suicide mission. Fayed claimed that the plot was organised by Buckingham Palace because Diana was pregnant with an Islamic child by Dodi.

There is obvious proof that Diana was not pregnant (she had just had her period as normal). And when keen anti-Royal propagandist Max Clifford examined the theory, even he concluded that Buckingham Palace could not have organised a plot anywhere near as complex as this.

Fayed's credibility as a witness on this and other issues has long since been blown.
