The biggest problem with the myth that Reagan killed communism, is communism was coming apart at the seams while Carter was in office. Carter was a smart man, and he knew all he had to do to cause the downfall of communism was nothing because their economic system was not sustainable. Reagan came into office in 1981 rattling sabers, which caused the Soviets to put their system on sort of life support.
If Carter would have been reelected the Soviet bloc would have embraced democracy by 1984 because Communism would have failed. Thanks to Reagan, we had ten more years of communism that we wouldn't have had before.

He also was the one who said "Tear down this wall." which referred to the Berlin wall separating east and west Berlin. Ronald Reagan also increased military budget while lowering taxes across the board.
