There is no substantial or concrete evidence claiming whether or not Rumi used mind altering substances. However, Rumi was a Persian born Sufi and marijuana does have a history of being used by the Sufi sect of Islam. As legend has it, Qutb ad-Dīn Haydar, the founder of Haydariyya, a Persian sect of sufi dervishes, is claimed to have found the plant and employed it in spiritual practices. Since he died when Rumi was fourteen, it is possible that Rumi tried it, but as I said, there is no concrete evidence.
