∙ 7y agoTheodore Roosevelt ran on the ticket with incumbent President William McKinley in 1900 and was elected vice-president. What McKinley was shot and killed, Roosevelt became president. He was put on the ticket because the incumbent vice-president had died in office and Roosevelt had attracted favorable attention as a war hero and had just been elected governor of New York.
