Yes, Athens is the patron city of Athena, but she was worshiped throughout Greece. The temple of Athena is the grandest of the Spartan acropolis.
Athens' feelings towards Sparta could differ from person to person and most important from time period to time period. For example, the story of the Battle of Thermopylae was considered very heroic but sometimes Spartan culture was made fun of in plays but in the same play Spartans could be seen as admirable (Aristophanes' Lysistrata, for example). Also, of course, if Athens was at war with Sparta, they would have a much different opinion of them. But one thing that they were very known for was the fact that they were supposed to be very brief with their words with a dry wit, the etymology for the word "laconic" is a reference to Sparta.
Athens was enemies with Sparta and Sparta was enemies with Athens
they had different forms of government, Sparta had oligarchy while Athens had democracy. in Athens, you became a man when you turned 18, in Sparta you had to be 30. for money Athens had drachmas and Sparta had obols.
When? Leda, Helen and Gorgo were all infamous queens of Sparta.
Athens was named after Athena, the city/state's patron goddess. Athena is the goddess of wisdom so I guess you could go on from there.
Athena
The city state of Sparta did indeed believe in the goddess Athena. The Spartans built for Athena the temple Chalkioikos.
Both cities worshipped the same basic gods and goddesses, but their importance varied. For example, Athena was the goddess of culture, art, music, poetry, and all things creative which were frowned upon in Sparta. Athena was also the patron goddess and protectress of Athens, the city being named for her, and Athens was the only significant rival to Sparta. Of course, she would not have been a favorite goddess in Sparta. Yet, she was a goddess, and it was unwise to disrespect her. Also, Athena was a warrior. Of the major Hellenistic female goddesses, she was the only one depicted with armor and weapons. At least this aspect of Athena's personality may have been admired by the Spartans, or maybe not.
