There was fleeing to unoccupied France, maybe US or other areas but I doubt after 1939. Leaving France in 1940-44 was very difficult. A few people managed to flee through Spain to Portugal and then on to the U.S. This was very tricky as Spain, though neutral, was friendly to the Axis. Another possiblity was sometimes going to a French colony, but the only links were with colonies loyal to the Vichy r
