In some ways, the Caliphate of Córdoba was very much a success. During the period trade and culture flourished, and many famous architectural treasures were created or completed. The most culturally important example of these buildings was probably the Mesquita, a gigantic mosque famous for its red-and-white arches that still stands today, though it changed substantially when a cathedral in the middle of it after Córdoba fell to Christian forces. However, the Caliphate only lasted about 100 years before infighting led to civil war and the Caliphate fractured into a number of Taifas. Because of its lack of longevity compared to other Muslim governments on the Iberian Peninsula, it could also be considered to be unsuccessful.
