No. "Mormon" is a nickname for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Church of Christ is a seperate Christian denomination.

The original name of the "Mormon" church was the Church of Christ, however after a very short while the name was changed to the longer "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" in order to avoid confusion with the Church of Christ denomination and several other independent churches with the same name. The name change took place about 175 years ago.

There are many individual congregations and denominations called the 'Church of Christ'. A few congregations called the 'Church of Christ' were started by ex-Mormons but most of these congregations did not last long and no longer exist. One that still exists is the Church of Christ (Temple Lot).

Many also grew out of the Stone-Campbell Restorationist movement, another popular Restorationist Christian movement at the time. Many Stone-Campbellites later converted to Mormonism. One of these is the denomination 'Churches of Christ'.

Other groups you might be referring to are the United Church of Christ (a Protestant denomination), the Church of Christ, Instrumental (a Baptist church), or The Church of Christ, an independent international church based in the Phillippines.

The original name of the early Mormon church was the Church of Christ. This should not be confused with the modern church which has that name. They are not and never were the same group.

Are you asking about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or the Church of Jesus Christ? The Church of Jesus Christ is another name for Christianity, and was obviously founded by Jesus Christ. There may of course be individual Christian churches with the name "The Church of Jesus Christ", which were probably started by the pastors or parishoners. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a Christian denomination, it is founded on the teachings of Jesus Christ but was started by Joseph Smith.
