The renaissance was born out of the closed minded dark ages. Everything was dark and gloomy, the church was almighty, the people were submissive.

The Medici family provided the confidence, commitment and finance to encourage artisans to develop and refine their skills. Finally the church was not the only ultimate power. The possibility of the individual and the richness of creativity was championed by the various generations of the Medici family, bring society into the modern world.
