There were 241 US servicemen killed, an additional 58 French servicemen, 6 civilians and the two suicide bombers on 23 October 1983 at the American Marine Barracks in Lebanon. The US Marines lost 220 men, the US Navy lost 18 and the US Army lost 3 men.
Numerous building were hit during the attack. Most of the buildings that were intentionally attacked by the Japanese were aircraft hangers, barracks & headquarters buildings. However the primary target of the attacks were ships at Pearl Harbor & aircraft (on runways, taxiways & in hangers) at the various Army, Navy and Marine Corps airfields on Oahu Island.
Brigadier General Archibald Henderson who held the position of Commandant of the Marine Corps for 38 years and served in the Corps for 53 years. He lived in the same house for 38 years at the Marine Corps Barracks in Washington DC that he forgot that it was property of the US Government and willed it to his heirs.

The Marine Barracks in Adak is located atop Bering Hill. It has underground tunnels connecting it to a chow hall and an above ground hall that connected it to the movie theatre and recreational facilities. The barracks has 4 levels including the basement.
