Go here to find out. www.nhtsa.gov no recall, only tsb. under warranty they will re-lube the steering shaft and reinstall. fixes the rattling...for a time, but it will return. if you are out of warranty buy the lube kit (about $15) from your local gm dealer and lube it yourself. easy 30 minute job with just a pair of wrenches. instructions are in the kit.
there is but it just puts lube in the intermediate shaft
My wife has a 2004 Tahoe and I bet I know why you're asking this question. Knocking when you turn the wheel, acts like it wants to stall when turning at a slow speed, resistance when turning? There is a problem with the steering assembly and Chevy will not allow the problem to go to a recall status. They have determined the issue falls within factory specs and is considered a regular service issue. You can grease the steering U joint yourself or have a mechanic do it for about $175.
no recall, but there was a bulletin. wasn't recalled because they determined that it wasn't a safety issue, rather and "inconvenience." there is a replacement for the intermediate steering shaft that eliminates the clunking/ratcheting feeling.
They had a problem with the steering column shaft slip joint, it was too sloppy. They have a replacement part to cure that problem available at the dealer.
There is. I have a 2002 Tahoe and it was just replaced last week for the second time since I bought it. It was covered by warranty both times. I was surprised.
Check the recall on the problem with the power steering pinion shaft....maybe what u need instead recall #02v286000 (try motor trend.com or google it)
It ran out of fluid because of a leak? The belt broke. The shaft [input} broke internally.
no, the intermediate steering shaft is completely independent of the power steering fluid operation. Make sure that when you remove the shaft, you DO NOT move the steering wheel. The clockspring inside the wheel is very easily damaged. no, I don't see why.
Not an answerable question. Missing need option and specific identification of what steering shaft. There are at least three.
Quick look: no. There are 12 recalls for your truck.... look them up at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/recallsearch.cfm
There is a recall on that item, they should fix it free.
Check the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration for recall information (http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/) i don't think it was an actual recall but there was a "bulletin" regarding the intermediate steering shaft. at one time there was a lube kit available to stop the rattling. they have since discontinued the lube kit and now have a replacement shaft. check with your local dealer. i was able to get mine replaced for free about a year out of warranty with a little pressing. i have a 03 2500hd. borgeson also offers a replacement shaft that is superior to the replacement. that's the route i would go if i need to replace the current shaft.
