For there were a number of silent film versions of the first book, and in fact succeeding books, in the series. This list includes The Wizard of Oz, in 1908, 1921, and 1925; The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Dorothy and the Scarecrow in Oz, and The Land of Oz, in 1910; and The Patchwork Girl of Oz, The Magic Cloak of Oz, and His Majesty the Scarecrow of Oz, in 1914.
