yes, during the colonal period, all the outcasts of other colonies established towns in Rhode Island. there was Anne Hutchinson and her followers who were ostercised from Massachusetts Bay for their ideas that contradicted the separist churches. Her religious theories were normally termed Antinomianism. Roger williams, another example, oalso set up another town for the same reason as Hutchinson. He was exiled from Massachusetts Bay for believing that they remained impure in the sight of the lord as long as they remained nominal members of the Church of England
