First of all the Medal of Honor is not "won" it is awarded. Won implies it was a competition. 50 Army medical department Soldiers and 2 Army medical department civilians have been awarded the Medal of Honor. Of those recepients; 16 were officers and 33 were enlisted. One of the civilians was Dr. Mary Edwards Walker. She was a civilian surgeon for the military during the Civil War and became a POW during that war.
