better to ask 'what is it' then what is it worth. value of any firearms depends on condition. metal, grips. bore.............and the make and model. it is best to show a pic of the piece, and relate all information on top/side of barrel..............
If this is an original, dependent on quality and shape, the value is very volatile. Could be worth more than you realize, also after the value is determined I would be interested in purchasing if you have any interest in selling. I am not a dealer, just very interested in collecting stuff a critical junctions of history. This period with the development of the six shooter was the beginning of fire powers great leap forward. Thanks Randy

Please note- the value of ANY collectible firearm is based on exact make, model, condition, and originality. There have been thousands of reproductions of the early Colt revolvers- the sailing ships roll mark is one of the most common. An orginal in good, unaltered condition is worth thousands- a reproduction about $150. Sorry, but you will need a hands on appraisal from someone that knows antique Colt firearms to give you an accurate and useful answer.
Thanks very helpful Best Randy
Chances are that if you overload the charge in a revolver style black powder pistol, you can blow up the cylinder or blow the barrel off the end of the gun.
i have found this old revolver in a pawn shop for 20 bucks how much is it worth
What is the value of a 1850 colt black powder with ships engraved serial number33700
it is most likely a 1849 colt pocket made in 1862 the beginning of the civil war it was a popular side arm for the enlisted solder who could afford it. can range in value now from $100-$900+ depending on how nice it is
Yes it is concealed, but not illegal because black powder firearms are not considered a "firearm".

The BATFE website has the answer.
You need to consult a Black Powder loading manual
In the technical sense no it is not loaded via the muzzle of the gun, black powder revolver is accurate as terms go, but they do fall under the blanket of "muzzle loader" in general terms.
A revolver with a chamfered cylinder simply has the front edge of the cylinder beveled rather than the edge of the face of the cylinder being at a right angle to the long axis of the cylinder. This facilitates inserting the revolver in to a holster, and also reduces wear to the holster. Chamfered cylinders were common on older revolvers, but have largely been abandoned by modern manufacturers - probably to save cost on a feature of relatively minor importance. A revolver with a chamfered cylinder is more esthetically pleasing to many shooters, especially those with a taste for tradition. It is available as a customization option from after-market gunsmiths such Bowen Classic Arms Corporation, which refers to it as a "black powder cylinder chamfer" in their catalog. Metallic cartridges were originally loaded with black powder, rather than nitro based smokeless powder as they are now. Old black powder revolvers, particularly Colt and Smith and Wesson revolvers such as the Single Action Army and later the New Century (Triple Lock) had chamfered cylinders.
