We have a concrete porch we would like to build our own porch railing could yousggest a wood type to use that will not end up rotting or twisting?

If you really want wood, you need to go with a hardwood like ipe or teak. But check out composite woods. They look great and will satisfy your requirements and cost less than the hardwoods. Any lumber that is treated will eventually degrade. If you want to go with a soft wood, then go with western cedar or Alaskan cedar.
There are also vinyls and composites that won't warp or rot and they will look great and last forever. If you want a contemporary look to your porch, then you can use a cable system by "Design Rail".
