There are a few reasons for a leak coming from and around the thermostat on most Focus cars:
should eather be at the top in to engine or on bottom hose coming from engine
The thermostat CANNOT be repaired it has to be replaced. There should be a hose coming out of the top of the radiator hose going to the engine. Where it connects to the engine should be a housing with two bolts on it. Disconnect the hose and the bolts and the thermostat is behind the housing. You might have to move something out of the way to do this, but it is usually rather easy. Hope this helps.
Look where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine and you should find the thermostat housing.Look where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine and you should find the thermostat housing.
Spring end should be in engine
On 1.2 3 cylinder BME engine Fabias it is loctated in the black plastic housing near side of cylinder head with 2 rubber coolant hoses coming out of it. Standing at front of car with bonnet up and looking into engine bay it should be to your right side, underneath the side of the engine cover and the thermostat housing has an electrical connector plug coming out of it.
You should locate the upper radiator hose and follow it to its ending destination, the ending point should be a little neck coming out of the block there should be to 10mm or 12mm bolts the thermostat will be under that housing. follow the top radiator hose back to the engine and that's where the thermostat housing shoould be. Take it off and replace the thermostat with the spring end toward the engine. Update: The information above is absolutely incorrect. The thermostat on a 1993-1997 Corolla is at the terminaltion of the LOWER radiator hose.
Follow upper radiator hose to housing at engine - thermostat should be in this housing Follow upper radiator hose to housing at engine - thermostat should be in this housing
If it has the 5.9 just follow the hose coming from the top of radiator. That hose should run to the top of your engine. At he end of this hose there should be 2 bolts. This is you thermostat housing. Just remove the bolts and hose and replace with new thermostat and gasket. Tighten bolts and clamp.
On V8 LT1 engine, remove air intake tube from throttle body to expose thermostat housing, thermostat housing is right the air intake tube where it connects to the engine, should see large rubber hose coming from radiator, remove this from the engine, the part you remove this from is the thermostat housing, should have 2 bolts to take out, takes 8mm socket, pull off and thermostat will probably be stuck to it, pry off and install new one, careful to not overtighten bolts or housing could crack.
Follow the top radiator hose from the radiator to the engine. Where the hose meets the engine is where your thermostat should be.
Yes, with out the thermostat, the coolant can circulate to fast to effectively absorb and transfer any heat. Updated answer, The thermostat is to keep the engine running at a factory set predetermined temperature, without the thermostat the engine should run cooler.
take the water outlet off the top of the engine and the thermostat should be right there
