The Bible does not say how many trees there were, only mentioning two special trees: The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, and the Tree of Life.
By eating the fruit of the first tree, Adam became god-like (Genesis 3:22: "now the man is become like one of us"). God had to prevent him from eating the fruit of the Tree of Life, lest he also become immortal, therefore driving Adam out of the Garden of Eden and setting cherubim and a flaming sword, to block the path to the Tree of Life.
