Veterans are reclassified after their discharge from the service. During the Viet War, men were committed to 6 years of service; so a returning draftee from two years of service on active duty, with one year in Vietnam, had 4 more years of INACTIVE RESERVE duty remaining. This meant he was still subject to duty in case of emergency. Most of these men were never recalled to active duty; however, MANY men chose to volunteer again for Active duty, National Guard, or Army Reserves; when they found out that their 2 years of active duty counted towards 20 years of service (retirement money) if they joined the Guard or Army Reserves. The only catch was a Reservist or Guardsmen received his pension (money) at age 60; whereas an active duty serviceman received his pension immediately upon retiring, at age 38, if he entered at age 18. Today's all volunteer military now has an 8 year obligation, due to the large amount of money invested in the individual serviceman..

What group of US veterans are willing to fight ISIS?

A group of U.S. veterans, often referred to as "The Veterans for Foreign Wars" (VFW) or informal networks of veteran volunteers, have expressed a willingness to assist in the fight against ISIS. Some veterans feel a sense of duty to combat terrorism and protect global security, often drawing on their military experience. These individuals may join private military contractors, volunteer with local militias, or engage in humanitarian efforts to counteract the influence of ISIS.
