Western digital external hard drive not getting detected in computer it plugs and unplugs everytime. I am not able to access that as it is not visible in my computer. Please help?

If this is an IDE drive, check your jumper settings:
- 1 drive on a single cable/port = MASTER or Cable Select
- 2 drives on a single cable/port = 1 Master/1 Slave
If you're hooking this up on the same cable as another drive, make sure you set its jumper to Slave.
If you're hooking this up on a totally separate, stand-alone port, make it either Cable Select or MASTER.
Make sure that your power cord is plugged in and that your IDE cables are secure at all ends with no bent/broken pins.
Enter your BIOS setup screen and make sure you set this port to AUTO DETECT. In most cases, the BIOS will detect the drive automatically if it's connected properly and jumpers are set right.
