Camera lens filters? They are known as FL series filters: FL-W, FL-D, FL-B used to correct the greenish color cast of the various types of fluorescent lighting. The problem would be most pronounced in color film, but would have the effect of reducing contrast between the shades of gray represented by certain colors in black & white photography. Enlarger filters? They are used to modify the contrast of variable contrast black & white print papers. They are also used in color printing to affect the color cast of the print.
There are pluses and minuses for each venue. Sometimes the simpleness of black and white outperforms any color print and vice versa. I simply enjoy the old historic black and white photographs ... there are (I think) 52 shades between total white and total black, which make this kind of photography so very wonderful in itself.

Color blindness comes in varying degrees. With complete color blindness a person sees only black and white, no colors. There is also partial color blindness, which prevents a person from fully perceiving all colors, although there is some color perception. There are few practical consequences to a lack of color vision - it can be harder to tell when fruit is ripe. But then, you can still feel the fruit to see how hard it is.
The purpose of color photography is to make an image that is more realistic than a black and white photo of the same subject would be. Color photography is also able to capture more information, as it can record whether, for example, the grass is green (growing) or brown (not growing).
