Throat cancer, possibly brought on by the stress of being ruined by so-called colleagues in a bank fraud. The last photo shows him writing his memoirs, which he did reluctantly, to provide for his family. He managed to complete them just days before his death. (Like Sherman's, they were better than expected from someone who did not look as though he would write a good book.)
