There is no such desert as the "North American Desert." However, there are several deserts in North America. Deserts occur in both the United States and Mexico.
American Desert is a generic term that describes the southwestern region of the United States that consists of several deserts: Great Basin Desert Chihuahuan Desert Sonoran Desert Mojave Desert (includes Death Valley) Colorado Plateau Desert (includes the Painted Desert)
In the United States it is the Mojave Desert that is located within the desert biome. It is a Native American culture that you will find in this region.
That could very well be the Sonoran Desert of the United States. It receives more rainfall than any other American desert on average.
The Great Basin Desert is the largest desert in North America, located in the western United States.

The original 'American Desert' encompassed much of the central region of the United States and were actually grasslands. This area receives more than 20 inches of rain per year and an actual desert receives less than 10 inches. The true deserts of the United States are primarily located in the southwest of the country.
Operation Desert Storm
Mesquite is found in the southern desert regions of the United States.
The first Gulf War the United States was involved in was Operation Desert Storm. While the United States played a large role in the short operation they were not the only country involved.
Most deserts in the United States are located in the southwest part of the country.
