on the fire wall in the engine compartment
This is almost impossible to answer. It is too broad. Depending on whats wrong with the engine you might not need swapping. A rebuild is possible. But a 5S-FE engine for the 91 celica is fairly cheap for a low mile running engine. They came in a number of Toyota cars back in the 90's so there is no shortage of them. That's if you want the stock engine.. A more powerful turbo engine is available (from the celica alltrac, celica GT-4 and MR2 Turbo).. a bit more expensive with about the same amount of work.. If you need help or want further information, maybe just some questions answered i would suggest going to www.celicatech.com its a website dedicated to the Toyota celica.. And covers basically everything.
Not that i know of, but ! There is a 6-speed in the newer celica GTS model, and that transmission will bolt up to the 2.2 Non Turbo engine in the MR2 as well as the turbo engine... But the problem is getting the shift linkage hooked up, the rear engine has a shift linkage on the front of the transmission, and the FWD has a linkage on the rear of the transmission. But i am in the process of putting in a and buying a 6-speed Celica transmission That 6-speed transmission will NOT bolt to a 5sfe, 3sge or 3sgte engine. There are currently no 6 speed options. there might be a 6 speed depending on 09 its not confirmed yet though so keep the fingers crossed
Any engine will fit in any vehicle, it would just need to be modified to make it fit.
The transmission from a 94 Celica GT will fit in a 91 Celica GT with minor modifications. This includes adjusting the shift linkage and mounting points.
Probably not. the 87 should be carb and the 91 should be injected not a good fit w/ the ECU. The electronics are not compatible.

get your ecu checked out my 91 was doing the same thing, the ecu was bad, and the ground to the ecu was bad, which caused the "fry" to the ecu.
