William Howard Taft, who was the 27th US President from 1909-1913, assumed the role of 10th Chief Justice of the United States (Supreme Court) in 1921. The Senate approved his nomination 60-4 in a secret session, and the roll call has never been made available to the public.
Taft presided over the Supreme Court until 1930, retiring due to poor health. He died a few months after leaving office.
