AnswerGeorge Washington wrote many letters that are published. Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Alexander Hamilton and many others were recipients of many of his important government letters that helped shape the form of government we would use. Martha Washington destroyed all but 3 of his letters to her shortly after his death to protect the privacy of his innermost personal thoughts. Historians no doubt would have loved to have had them.

George Washington was not an author of either the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution. He did however write many letters to others that influenced their writings on the Amendments. Washington served as President of the Constitutional Convention but said very little. His presence was enough to make the convention legitimate as far as the citizens of the new country. Without him, the other founders knew they would be questioned as to their motives. Washington was held in such high esteem that just by him being part of it made the point moot.
