The tigawa Indians ;)
The Miami, The Potawatomi and the Shawnee were the three main tribes that inhabited Indiana from the 1700s, up to the Battle of Tippicanoe and the Indian removal process started by William Henry Harrison after the uprising involving Tecumseh. There were also bands of Sac, Kickapoo and Fox Indians present up to that time as well as descendants of Iroquois from the east. The earliest tribes were the Miami which populated the northern parts of the state, The Potawatomi were in the south-western part and the Shawnee were in the south-eastern portion. The history of these tribes is very scant as they were being constantly pushed out of their native lands by whites coming in from the east, as well as immigrants (German, Irish, English) who were given permission by the state government to settle in Indiana even before the final treaties for the sale of Indian land and Indian removal were finalized. It would be somewhat akin to being asked what your family's history is while simultaneously packing and moving everything you own and hitting the road with family on horseback.
