What NFL Team introduced the no huddle offense during the 1980s?

The no-huddle or hurry-up or two-minute offense has been a part of football for a VERY long time. However in the late 80s, the Cincinnati Bengals under Head Coach Sam Wyche, began deliberately not huddling in order to prevent opposing defenses from bringing in situational substitutes like extra defensive backs, or pass rush specialists. This offense was not always a hurry-up offense however and the Bengals often did not necessarily snap the ball much faster than a conventional offense. Marv Levy's Buffalo Bills then took the next step, implementing a full time no-huddle offense that emphasized quick snaps as well as not huddling. The technique creates an undeniable advantage for the offense because defensive players are generally more active and thus benefit more from substitution and rest. In the early days, when the technique was novel, NFL defenses were also ill-prepared to handle it, as is often the case, but got progressively better at countering the effect as time went on. However the technique also heavily taxes one's own defense which is then spending much more time on the field. It also means that one's own offense spends large periods of time on the sideline and can sometimes lose the 'rhythm' that passing games thrive upon. Since those teams it is sometimes popular to use the no-huddle for a drive or two when an offense is struggling, in an attempt to artificially create an advantage which might then result in confidence or rhythm for the offense, and thus might translate to the more conventionally paced offense. But the toll taken on the defense, and the demands this offense places on one's quarterback to call the offensive plays is sufficient that the idea is still viewed as a gimmick. http:/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurry-up_offense
