What is the definion of erosion?

The gradual wearing away of land surface materials, especially rocks, sediments, and soils, by the action of water, wind, or a glacier. Usually erosion also involves the transport of eroded material from one place to another, as from the top of a mountain to an adjacent valley, or from the upstream portion of a river to the downstream portion.

What are other causes of soil erosion?

in my point of view, the basic cause of soil erosion is water . this has tremendous soil cutting capacity due to various small particles and high speed of water flow. This high speedy water carries the upper- most fertile layer of earth crust needed for successful plant production. The other major cause for erosion is Wind. This ; carries the upper portion of soil up to a depth of 15mm and then a barren land is left.Heavy rains are also a cause of soil erosion.Soil erosion is mainly protected by growing tress , which capture the soil and do not allow it to move away.
