Battleships USS Wisconsin (BB-64) and USS Missouri (BB-63)("Mighty Mo") both served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
Their primary roles included multiple launches of BGM-109 Tomahawk Land-Attack Missiles (TLAM) against Iraqi targets (including Baghdad), as well as providing a diversionary attack on Iraqi forces on the coast and islands of Kuwait and Iraq. This was to keep them thinking there was a main amphibious assault planned on the coast, while the main attack force was actually speeding through the Saudi Arabian desert to cut off retreating Iraqi forces. The plan worked brilliantly; the Iraqis were caught completely off-guard, and essentially massacred by Coalition Air Forces as they attempted to flee Kuwait.
Wisconsin used one of the first UAV's, the RQ-2 Pioneer Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, using it for gun spotting of her 16" guns. It is famously noted that an Iraqi position, having witnessed the previous destruction of another position by her guns, surrendered to the UAV rather than be bombarded.
