A clogged vent plug will allow pressure to build up inside the transmission from the heat of friction or ambient temperature even if it's just sitting. That increased pressure forces outward on every surface in the transmission. With no pressure release, it can force the transmission oil or fluid out the axle shaft seals until it is too low for safe operation. Early transmission failure can result, as well as unsightly puddles underneath the car.
Either the transmission is overfilled or the transmission vent is plugged.
The transmission vent is plugged with debris.
The problem ended up being the vent port in the top of the transmission housing was plugged with a mud-dobber nest. The nest was probably built when I had the transmission in storage.
Depends on the model, Most of the time if the fluid is running down the rear of the trans and dripping off,it can be fluid coming from the vent. This is usually caused by High fluid level,Low fluid level,or a plugged cooler. Allisontech
Possable transmission overheating and/or a plugged vent, or just overfilled. Allways check level when hot.
Low coolant? Radiator plugged or air flow restricted? Transmission cooler line crimped , plugged or disconnected?
If a Polaris Scrambler transmission vent line is blowing out transmission fluid the fluid may have been overfilled. Putting the transmission fluid in the wrong plug can also cause this.
Use a funnel and put the fluid in the same hole as the the dipstick where you check it... This is for automaitc of course. If i goes in slow or not at all the vent is plugged on the top of the transmission....This can also cause the trasnmission to "blow off" fluid through the seals.
The vent tube is located on top of transmission case. To see it you must remove the air filter. The tube also serves another purpose as it is axis pin for the drive linkage cable for shifter inside the car. The vent is known to get plugged after a trans fluid service and flush. If the vent is plugged trans fluid will overflow from the dip stick after car is driven and you will get a puddle of trans fluid under car while parked.
There are a few things that can cause this. First, plugged cooler lines from the transmission to the cooler, which usually is built into the radiator, or mounted in front of it. Second, plugged transmission cooler. Third, plugged filter in the transmission. Fourth, overloading the transmission. Fifth, if the cooler is in the radiator tank, and the engine is running too hot, it will also prevent it from cooling the transmission.
There are several things that can cause your transmission to malfunction with only 48,000 miles on it. The most common cause is a plugged transmission fluid filter.
Yes, that can cause the fluid to foam up and leak out of the vent.
