No. Islam didn't split into two groups at the death of the Prophet SAW. It split into two political groups when the rebels mercilessly martyred the third Rightful Caliph Hazrat Usman RAU. The religious division came much later.

Islam is only one Religion. There are two major Islam schools or groups, namely Sunnis and Shiites. However, all people in these two groups are Muslims. They have the same main beliefs and believe in same Islam five pillars. They differ in very minor Islamic issues that are not critic. They all pray in the same mosque facing same direction and led during gathering praying with a leader that could be belonging to either of the two groups.
