The Germans were suffering from depression, but theirs was much worse because they not only had to deal with their own fiscal shortages, but they also had to pay reparations over to their opponents in the first world war. Adolf Hitler rose to power. Taking advantage of the meek and submissive leaders of Europe, he proceeded to violate the treaty of Versailles in many ways. The main points were of the rebuilding of the army and the abeyance of the monetary reparation promised to Britain and France. Dealing with their own problems, and not wanting another war of the likes of WWI (these leaders lived through the first war when they were younger), they immediately submitted, a policy known as appeasement. Hitler, drunk with power, continued this mad escapade of his own decisions. He started to use his army, occupying countries as Austria, Hungary, Sudetenland, etc. He claimed he was bringing back the German population to its roots. Once again, the other world powers yielded to his conquest, not wanting another war. Hitler, insane with pride, and the populace, insane with pride, went on even FURTHER. He actually started fighting resisting peoples, conquering the other half of Czech. Finally, when he invaded Poland, it was ON! Britain and France finally declared war on him.

Keep in mind this started only the Western European theater of world war two. The Eastern European theater, the Asiatic Theater, and the Pacific theater all has its roots in different places, but all do connect with the economic shortages of the decade.
