Some of the best officers in the US Army had resigned to join the Confederates.

An enthusiastic cavalry tradition - most young men owned at least one horse, and were used to the riding and shooting way of life.

At this point, they looked like gaining recognition and military aid from Britain and France.

They were not planning to invade the North at the beginning, so they had only to defend their home territory, unfamiliar to the enemy.

This also gave them a more powerful mission - defending the homeland.

Upon entering the US Civil War, the South had the advantage of fighting on their home territory, which allowed them to have a clearer understanding of the terrain and potential defensive positions. The South also had a strong military tradition and many experienced officers, which gave them a skilled leadership advantage. Additionally, the South had a significant agricultural base and the ability to sustain themselves through the production of food and raw materials.

What were the South's advantages before the US Civil War?

Before the US Civil War, the South was a prosperous area due to the wealth obtained from selling cotton and tobacco. Additionally, the South was politically united in its belief that slavery was the the key to its prosperity and the idea of a possible set of circumstances that threatened slavery was a situation most Southerners agreed upon. During the US Civil War, the South had a number of advantages. One important one was the fact that it did not require the Confederacy to fight a costly offensive war against the North. It had the advantage of simply trying to avoid a devastating series of invasions from the North. It required less troops to fight a defensive war, which for the most part was what the strategy of the South was.

What were the biggest obstacles for the north upon entering the war?

the North had advantages Because of all their railroads and ways of transportation. They also had a bigger advantage because of the telegraph so they could communicate better and faster! But the south didn't have many railroads, canals, roads, or other ways of transportation to get supplies and more troops. Also, they did not have a good and fast way to communicate so they end up loosing the civil war.
