I personally would not consider owing a man made fish, so I don't know from experience how long they live. I have been advised however that their expected life span is around 5 years.
I had a parrot fish that died today and lived for about 8 to 9 years (my family brought him when he was 2" long and we are not sure how old he was at that time ) from 2002 to this day he was really healthy. Always feed him and making sure the climate was about 71-75 degrees Fahrenheit. But he died because the heater failed and was off for about 32-36 hours (our fault for not making sure it was working properly). We believe he was meant to live longer than he did, may be few more years. We hope this helps to fish parrot lovers, and if you have something to add or ask feel free to do so.
