It is safe and legal for a child of any age to sit in the front passenger side of the car. They must have the correct child restraint for their height and weight.
In the state of Ohio, you only have to be 8 years of age to ride in the front seat. But if you reach other standards your child will have to remain in the back passenger seat. To sit in the front, your height needs to be 4'9" or taller. In weight you must be over 60 pounds.
We must know your or your child's weight to see if you or you child's have a healthy weight.
If a child is to sit in the front of a car with an airbag, they MUST BE 80 POUNDS!!
Its not about age, its about height and weight
Rules regarding this vary from state to state. However a good general rule is if the child is under the age of 12 should always sit in the back seat. The primary reason for this is because of their height in relation to the dashboard and or airbags. In an accident the child may have more serious injuries from sitting in the front and hitting the dashboard or being impacted by an airbag which was not designed for a child's size/weight. Many states have laws regarding your child must be in a car/or booster seat until they weigh a certain weight or are a certain height for this reason. I would contact your law enforcement to see what rules are in your area.
Every age can sit in the front of any car any where in PA. Age 0-7 need to be in a booster. Ages above do not need one.
In Illinois, it is recommended that children under the age of 13 sit in the back seat of a vehicle whenever possible for safety reasons. This is to reduce the risk of injury from airbag deployment in case of a crash. If a child must sit in the front seat, ensure they are in an appropriate child restraint system based on their age, weight, and height.
In New Jersey, a child must be at least 8 years old and meet the height and weight requirements prescribed by law before they can sit in the front seat of a vehicle with a functioning airbag. It is recommended to refer to the specific guidelines outlined in the state's child passenger safety laws for accurate information.
