Spruce Goose
The most well known airplane with four propeller driven engines on each wing was the "Spruce Goose". It was designed by Howard Hughes and flew only one time for a short distance.
Propeller or the prop. In a jet plane the it's called a turbine
The propeller puls the front of the aircraft forward. this adds huge pressure to the fitting. The larger the propelle the creator the pull
Airplane engines are affixed to the front fuselage (nose), the leading or trailing edge of the wings, or the tailplane, depending on the type of airplane.
The front of an airplane is called nose of the airplane.
25 feet to the front or 200 feet to the rear of the aircraft

The water pump on the V6 engines are inside the front of the engine driven by the timing chain or belt. The water pump on a V8 is in the front and center of the engine.
Anything causing the engine to fail. Slow speeds can cause a stall in the engine, giving it no more forward speed, making it plummet to the ground unless the speed is increased. In propeller engines, rocks, bullets, and pieces of metal can break apart the prop. In jet engines, because of their increased suction in the front of the engine, anything from small springs, gravel, or small rocks can make the engine fail dramatically.
A truck is normally driven from the front.
Both tractor (facing forward) and Pusher props (facing aft) have been used and the German Dornier D.O.X. had twelve engines in six power naccelles- each containing two engines back to back or (tandem order) as the Germans called it.These were high powered Daimler Benz aircraft engines-purpose built as aircraft engines-not adapted or modified motor vehicle mills like the Packard V-l2"s were (which were quite effective) The D/O/X."s There were two of them delivered to Italy (had to clear the Heights on delivery flights- that"s Fifteen Grand right there!) had Fiat A-22 custom engines rated at 580HP each. These were liquid cooled. They could operate at high RPM for sustained periods of time, and this was an advantage for a flying boat.It is obvious the front and rear engines counter-rotated to equalize the torque.
We are also looking for info on the Bud Morris's Airplane School. We have a photo of a pilot standing in front of the school's window with a wooden propeller. We are certain the picture was taken prior to 1920. Have you learned of anything regarding this school? bsmith@locl.net
