The westward expansion of the original 13 colonies on the east coast of North America eventually led to the Americanization all the way to the west coast, the Pacific Coast. The borders were Mexico to the south and British Canada to the north.Americans moved west because the US had taken over the great Southwest and California upon the defeat of Mexico in 1848. Many people say that this was stealing from Mexico. This idea is false. Mexico was able to cede this vast territory because it once belonged to Spain. As with the entire New World, all of it was stolen from the Native Tribes.

Now Mexico knew it could not defend what it gave away to the US and it was never Mexico's land to begin with. The Republic of Texas was annexed to the US and soon was a new state.

In 1803, again, the Louisiana territory owned by France was stolen from the Natives. A secret deal between Spain and France ceded the land back to France. Napoleon also knew he could not defend this land and rather than allow Great Britain to take it, a better deal was to sell it to the USA.

The USA now owned a vast amount of land. Gold and silver drew American miners to the West. The Federal government practically gave vast amounts of land to the railroads and offered free Federal lands to people wishing to get a new start in the west. The final "touch" was to battle th Native Tribes into submission. With that complete, Americans settled the west.
