45/70 caliber center fire. But NOT factory loads. For the trapdoor the case must be loaded with black powder
It must be marked on the box "FOR USE IN ALL RIFLES"
Your serial number indicates that your Springfield model 1884 trap door was made in the year 1888.As far as history is concerned, your rifle would have been used against the American Indian tribes in settling the west, and against the Spanish in the war of 1898.(Spanish American War).
rifle made 1890 and used during the Indian wars................
30-06
Springfield was the name of the arsenal that made the rifle. FMJ (full metal jacket) refers to the type of bullet used in the cartridge. If both are 30-06, they are both capable of being fired together.
It needs to be checked out by a good gunsmith.
About the same. The 1903 Springfield used a licensed version of the Mauser action used on the German Model 1898 Mauser.
Springfield was a trade name used by Stevens/Savage c. 1920-1945. No relationship to the current Springfield Inc or the US Springfield Armory. What you have is a Savage Model 720 built under license from FN (Browning) They where also made by Remington with the Model 11 designation.
Carrying ammunition.
Yes, the Mossberg?æ500 20 gauge ammunition can be used in the Mossberg .410 model. To find out if ammunition will fit, the Mossberg company stamps the size needed on the side of the barrel.
There is no way of knowing this. All records of the US model 1873 springfield rifle/carbine will not have what regiment was issued which rifle by serial number.
If it's marked Springfield and not Stevens, probably circa WWII or so (though they weren't used by troops in the war, that roughly coincides with when they were sold to sportsmen under the Springfield brand name).
